Biochemical Prenatal Screening Tests
Why should I have testing during my pregnancy?
Whether or not to have a screening test during pregnancy is a personal decision. For families who elect to have screening, the choice of which screening test to take if often a confusing one. Using the information in the biochemical testing and having an open discussion with your healthcare provider, you will be able to arrive at a decision that is best for you.
It is now recognized that The INTEGRATED 190 Test, which combines the two best first trimester markers (PAPP-A and NT measurement) with the second trimester QUAD test (AFP, estriol (uE3), total-ßHCG, and inhibin-A), will yield a superior detection rate of 90% for Down syndrome, with a 2.15% screen positive rate*. This results in the need for fewer invasive diagnostic tests.
The MODIFIED SEQUENTIAL 30•190 and The CONTINGENT 30•1500•190 provide patients with a risk assessment in the first trimester, allowing for early notification in patients shown to be at high risk, and earlier access to diagnostic testing.
Ultrasound examinations (nuchal translucency measurements) can provide additional data for evaluations of risk, and are utilized in cross trimester risk assessment.
